Lovely day yesterday. I went out walking/jogging in the morning and wound up with more energy than I'd had when I started out. The only problem with my apartment is that on really nice days it's very pleasant to sit in the living room and sometimes I forget that it might be even more pleasant to actually go outside. But Kelly had been talking for days about how she wanted to go hiking, so we spent the afternoon in the Fells. Unlike some previous visits, we managed not to get lost this time. We parked along the South Border Road and spent about 2 hours on the bit of the Skyline Trail that loops up past the tower with a scenic view of I-93. We couldn't quite see our house from there. This is a great time of year to go out because it's not too hot or buggy, but it was a little odd to be out in the woods because most of the trees don't have leaves yet. I think that makes the noise from the interstate carry farther into the park.

At Sherman Cafe this morning, I got a brochure for Somerville Open Studios the weekend after next. I missed most of last year's but I want to check out parts of this year's. Anyone interested in checking out Mudflat that Friday night? I'd have to run the idea by Kelly, but I bet we could do dinner before or tea afterwards, seeing as how it's right around the corner from our place. Mudflat was the one studio we did manage to visit last year and it was cool, although somewhat crowded.

As FJ mentioned a few days ago, the local dance radio station (coloquially known as WGAY) transformed itself overnight into a new station called "Mike FM" that plays "everything." I gave it a try while driving down to JP for softball today. As far as I can tell, "everything" consists mostly of not-especially-recent songs that I don't particularly like but can nonetheless recognize after a few bars even if I haven't heard them in years. Today's highlights included "1999", "Waiting for a Girl Like You", "Copacabana", "How Do You Talk to an Angel", "Dream On", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and one of those Eagles songs where the lyrics are terrible but the guitar part is okay. The "we play everything" gimmick is that they mix the stuff up so that every time they switch songs the listener is sitting there thinking "?????" So I think from now on it's WWTF instead of WGAY. It's an interesting idea, and in theory I'm all for variety, but the end result is that it's impossible to settle into any kind of groove while driving to this stuff because there's no flow.

Softball was good. We only played for about an hour and a half, but that was about the right amount. My arms are feeling a lot better than they did last year. I wish I could say it was because I diligently worked out all winter, but I didn't so the credit probably goes to my new 9-to-5 working hours. Games start in two or three weeks.
