If you are planning to e-file your taxes, make sure you do it before Comcast comes to replace the cable modem, just in case your DNS winds up hosed afterwards.

I should have known it was too good to be true when I called Comcast and I said "I need a new cable modem" and they said "Sure!" and gave me a 2-hour service window the next day and the tech showed up right in the middle of it and it took 10 minutes to replace the modem.

DNS is not totally hosed, it's just hosed with respect to the router, so plugging my Mac directly into the cable modem and grabbing a new DHCP lease enabled me to file taxes but there was a little bit of panic first.

If you were doing market research and the very first thing someone said when you called was "we're on the Massachusetts do-not-call list," would you start politely explaining to them that the do-not-call list didn't apply to market research, or would you take the hint?

The router and the new cable modem have re-established a happy DHCP relationship. In other news, I discovered that today is only April 14 so when I was flipping out this morning I still had more than 24 hours in which to get my taxes filed. On the bright side, they're still done.

Lots of fun plans for this weekend, including the first softball practice of the season. I need to get my act together and go use the batting cages over at Good Times before the season starts. My hitting has steadily improved over the past 5 years, from terrible to mediocre.
