...but Kelly did get me some awesome new plaid flannel pajamas for Christmas. I tried them on and now she bursts out laughing every time she walks by me. She claims it's because I look cute, but now I'm paranoid. She liked the clock that I found at the gallery next to True Grounds. The rest of our gift exchange was mostly books of the too-large-to-read-on-the-subway variety. Tomorrow, we're going up to Amesbury for Christmas with her family and then running around town to visit friends.

We went to see The Incredibles today. It was a very fun superhero movie, although the villain was only so-so. I particularly liked the superhero kids. After dinner, we were going to go get Chinese food, but Kelly has a bit of a cold and wanted soup so we went to Shabu-Zen instead. We hadn't been there in a long time, but it's not the kind of restaurant where they change the menu very often so there were no surprises. For those of you who aren't local, this is a shabu-shabu restaurant--they give you a pot of soup and vegetables and raw meat to cook in it. We were facing a wall with a huge TV screen, so during dinner we got to watch the end of the Packers/Vikings game with no sound. I may not turn Kelly into a football fan this year, but she's already excited for March Madness.

I thought about going out tonight, but I have a headache that won't go away. So I made some tea and we tried out the free copy of Zigity that we recently received as a special offer after buying another Cranium game (Hoopla a few weeks ago. Hoopla is a co-operative game in which all players are "on the same team" trying to get through a certain number of charades-like questions before time runs out. It was fun, but the non-adversarial nature of the game means that there's no opportunity for ass-kicking. Zigity is a card game that's more competitive and very quick to play. Because it's so quick, there's only limited room for strategy (maybe there's more with 3-4 players) but it's amusing. It's also printed on nifty transparent plastic cards.

This may be the first time in years that I've managed to watch two movies in one day. I TiVo-ed The Ref a little while ago, because I had been hearing that it was a great movie but I had never seen it. Kelly says it's funnier with all the cursing that's edited out for TV, but it was still pretty entertaining.

I went to the gym today for the first time in I've-given-up-keeping-track-of-how-long. My back was not in great shape, so I settled for half an hour on the exercise bike. I picked a bike in front of one of the TV sets that was tuned to ESPN. Unfortunately, when I started pedaling and tried to select my workout settings, all of the prompts were displaying in German. If it had been French or Spanish, I might have been able to handle it, but I think I missed something and told it my target heart rate was 30, so I gave up and changed bikes. The three people at the front desk were very surprised when I mentioned it to them, so I guess the gym is not offering multi-lingual workout equipment as a new feature (you never know in Cambridge).
