Kelly and I will be welcoming visitors at our house in Somerville on New Year's Eve. We'll have food and space to hang out and maybe play some games. We're not doing TV countdowns or silly hats or champagne this year. If you want company but you're not feeling totally social, it's fine to bring your reading material or needlepoint or whatever. It's also fine to bring a friend or two. Come by anytime between 7pm and 1am. Let me know if you need directions to our house.

If you bring food, house rules are no pork products of any kind. If you have dietary restrictions, let us know and we'll cook something you can eat. There are two cats living here, but they'll stay in the bedroom out of the way of allergic people.

This afternoon, it looked like the snow wasn't going to be all that bad, but now there's a lot of it. We shoveled the steps once already, but we'll have to do it again. On the bright side, we picked up a new jug of ice-melty stuff to dump on the sidewalk today while shopping in Porter Square. It was also lucky that we snagged two parking spaces on the appropriate side of our very crowded street in advance of the Somerville snow emergency, and that neither of us needs to drive to work tomorrow (not that walking to the T in this snow will be too much fun).

This is Healthworks free pass season. I went and worked out with Kelly today, making for a remarkable-for-me 2 gym visits in 3 days. Tomorrow, I may have to go on my own, and then she talked me into trying a Pilates class on Tuesday. My Christmas vacation is always marked by a brief burst of enthusiasm about going to the gym, which then fades completely by early February. But it's fun while it lasts.
