Aug. 14th, 2004 11:50 amThanks to the sales tax holiday, I will be a Mac user in a few days. Just in time, too, because Kelly and I have both had some frustrating computer problems in the last week or so.
We're watching the US women's soccer team play Brazil on TV this morning. Interestingly, CNBC is calling it football in the stats they're displaying onscreen right now. Score one for the rest of the world.
On a less pleasant note, my body decided that it would be best to kick of my week of between-jobs vacation by coming down with a nasty cold. I've been doped up on Sudafed for the last 24 hours. Hopefully I'll be functional for dinner at E+B's house tonight. They're on the Atkins diet, so Kelly was trying to figure out what to bring for dessert. I talked her out of flourless chocolate cake, but she may try to make crackaroons with Splenda.
Last night was a minor disaster. The original plan was to drive over to Arlington, get dinner at the BBQ place and see a movie. I nixed the movie part because I felt lousy, but we were still going to get dinner. About half a block before we turned off Mass Ave, we were stopped in traffic. I heard a noise like a tire blowing out and then something slammed into the back of our car. A woman had hit the car behind us, possibly twice, causing him to hit our rear bumper. There was no major damage to us or the car, but it spoiled Kelly's streak of almost 2 years without a car accident. The woman who had caused the whole mess seemed really out of it, like she didn't understand what was going on at all. Fortunately, the cops came quickly and took care of everything and it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to deal with the insurance claim. I'm starting to think that Kelly must have made some kind of horrible driving mistake in a past life to have such bad karma on the road.
