Sunday's trip to see my family was drama-free. The most shocking thing that happened was that my brother and I managed to choose nearly identical outfits (tan pants and maroon shirts) to wear to my sister's engagement party. Kelly and I were trying to make a list of colors that I can safely wear to avoid having this happen again (it's a real danger, Kelly almost wound up dressed like my mother at Thanksgiving but fortunately made a last-minute decision to wear a different sweater). Bright orange appears to be safe, but anything in the blue/purple realm is risky. Anyway, the party was very nice and Kelly survived meeting more of my relatives and some longtime friends of the family (one of whom totally surprised me by saying "you know you're missing an event in the city today" in reference to the gay pride march).

Other than that it was a nice weekend. On Friday night, we had an early celebration of my birthday (which falls on a terribly inconvenient day this year) with Dean and FJ. E and B were supposed to join us too, but bailed at the last minute because B decided that she needed to whisk E off to a surprise destination for the weekend and propose to her. Nobody minds getting ditched for a good cause. Saturday was a pretty mellow day and we finally got to use the new grill that had been sitting on our porch for about a year. Unfortunately, a certain person who shall remain nameless didn't realize that some assembly was required until she was actually ready to cook dinner. But we manged to assemble the darn thing and cook dinner without blowing up the house.
