Do-nothing vacation
Dec. 27th, 2002 08:28 amSo I'm on vacation between Christmas and New Years, which is very nice. I'm even managing to not think about work at all, mainly because I was a bit burnt out by the time I finished up my pre-vacation stuff. But in another few days I should be able to deal with going back.
In the meantime, things are mostly good. We drove up north to see Kelly's family for Christmas and had a really nice time. They liked the gifts she'd picked out for them, especially the two turn-of-the-century postcards of their town that she found in a shop in North Carolina (of all places) and had framed. And Kelly's parents totally suprised her by giving her the kitchen appliance of her dreams, so we made chocolate chip cookies that night after our harrowing drive home in the snow (we left just before it got really bad and the drive took twice as long as usual).
Yesterday, we met up with
pinkfish to see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (we're a little behind on our big movies), which was okay. A magic wand would have been really helpful when we were trying to get out of the parking garage, but no such luck. Then we went back to the Fenway for tea and leftover dessert until it became late enough that we wound up sticking around for dinner when FJ got home.
While I'm on vacation, I'm trying to get back into working out. Kelly had 5-day free passes to Healthworks, so I went with her yesterday. It's a really nice all-women's gym, except that it triggers all of my gender identity issues for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me. There are plenty of women there who're more butch than I am, so it's not that. But it's a very nice place to work out and I'm going to try a yoga class or two over the next four days because I want to start doing something about my lack of flexibility. I would have gone to a class this morning, but Kelly's feeling pretty sick and I didn't want to leave her alone until she'd had a chance to sleep it off a bit. I think she's got the stomach flu that's been going around.
