It's been grey and icky out all weekend. But hopefully it won't start raining before the last softball game of the season.

Kelly and I went to see Cirque du Soleil's show Quidam at Suffolk Downs on Friday. They performed under a small circus tent near the race track. I had never seen one of their shows and wasn't sure what to expect, but I'd heard good stuff. It was fabulous. The costumes were great, the music was pretty cool, and the performers were incredibly talented. It was a little hard to follow in places, but still very fun. The talking clowns were a little weird because traditional circus clowns generally don't talk, but they were really funny. At two points they grabbed people from the audience, leading to much joking with Kelly about how I was glad she didn't get abducted by clowns. The show is in Boston for a few weeks, and it's definitely worth checking out if your entertainment budget allows.

I spent Saturday being out-of-sorts. I slept really late, then had to get out of the house because the guy across the street was very loudly trimming all the hedges on his lawn. So I went to Diesel, had some Vietnamese coffee and started reading Arturo Perez-Reverte's The Flanders Panel, which I picked up at a bookstore awhile ago because the cover looked cool. It's in translation from the original Spanish, and it's sort of an art history mystery, in which a woman who restores paintings stumbles upon clues to a 500-year-old murder. Then I went home and crashed on the couch some more, made dinner for Kelly (salmon with brown sugar and honey mustard glaze) and then sent her off to some friends' housewarming party because I was too exhausted to go.

Today we drove up a little ways north to have breakfast with Kelly's folks. We met them at a restaurant about halfway between our houses. On the way there, when we got onto I-93 north, it was full of motorcycles. There must have been at least 500 of them, taking up the whole highway. Cars were just sort of sitting on the exit ramp waiting for an opportunity to get into the right lane. I'm not sure what was up with that. There was some charity ride going on around the city yesterday and part of Rt. 128 was closed off, but I don't know what the deal was today. We saw some cool bikes, but it was sort of a relief when they all turned off onto I-95 and we could drive in relative peace and quiet.

It was nice to see Kelly's folks. Her father, upon hearing of my grad school plans, tried to talk me into going for an MBA instead. It's an idea that I've considered but from what I can tell it would make me more qualified to do the kind of work I don't like (like managing people and doing sales pitches) so I'm not in any hurry to do it. Maybe when I've got a job that would pay for school...
