Interview questions from [livejournal.com profile] jss1113, leave me a comment if you'd like to be interviewed by me.

(1) The Vorlon question: Who are you?

Lately, I'm the person one calls when the impossible needs to have been accomplished yesterday.

(2) I'm a foodie and I like to know about others' food loves. What's
your ideal meal (menu, ambience, and companion(s))?

I've really learned how to cook over the past year and my favorite part of cooking is being able to spontaneously invite people over for dinner that evening (inviting people over in advance stresses me out, but if it's a last-minute thing then there's no pressure).

So I think my ideal meal is probably one where I make some homemade soup and salad and some fresh bread, and Kelly bakes something for dessert and one or two of our friends drop by. Fortunately, we manage some variation on that theme every few weeks or so. Five-course dinners at French restaurants are nice too, but not all the time.

(3) There is a God, and God has decided to grant you all their power
for a day, with everything that power entails, to make whatever changes
you would. What are the 5 main changes you would make using those
powers, and why?

Five is a lot to do in a day, especially if you've got some fear of unknown consequences. First, all of everyone's nuclear weapons would vanish because they're not doing anyone much good. Second, I'd sort out the political mess between Israel and Palestine somehow because it's been going on too long. Third, I'd give drug company executives a sudden change of heart about providing cheap medicine to Africa and other places where it's needed. Fourth, I'd clean up a few dozen environmental messes for obvius reasons. Fifth, lots of highways and major roads would suddenly get bike lanes because if you're going to cover for God you ought to get something out of it.

[And now, the slightly-more tailored questions....]

(4) What do you consider when making a first impression of someone?

I don't really trust my first impressions of people very much because I usually miss stuff and a lot of people in my life have turned out to be much more interesting than my first impressions of them might have led me to believe.

(5) Why do you put up with so much crap from your mother? I mean, why not simply spell out, in person or on the phone or in writing, that Kelly is part of your life, and when your mother's ready to accept her then you'll be happy to deal with your family, but until then it's not worth the hassle and stress and tsooris?

It would be much easier if it were clearly not worth the hassle. There's a lot of stuff that I really love about my family and they'd miss me if I stopped dealing with them because of this particular issue. In particular, I've been willing to put up with a lot of crap in order to maintain relationships with my brother and my youngest sister (who still live with my folks) and my father.

Oh yes it is. It's amazing what months of not talking to one's family will do for their gratitude when you finally do call. The criticism quiets down pretty damn fast, IME.
