Well, that's a first
Jul. 2nd, 2005 08:20 amMy mother forgot to call me for my birthday yesterday. This has never happened before. My grandmother called around 10:30 to wish me a happy birthday and mentioned that my mom had broken her nose playing tennis the previous week. So I called to see how she was doing and we talked for a while. When she started telling me about my other grandmother's birthday party later this month, I asked if she remembered what day it was. She was shocked that it had slipped her mind, but she'd remembered earlier in the day. She's got a lot going on, so I told her not to worry about it.
Kelly and I had a lovely evening. A while ago, I had asked if there was any way we could go see the Red Sox for my birthday. But they were playing Toronto and she saw them play Toronto twice last year, so she wasn't into it. It's really just as well because the Sox were down by 14 runs when I turned off the TV. We're going to see a game in a few weeks. Instead, we went to East Coast Grill for dinner. Earlier in the evening, we visited a local jeweler and I think we've taken the first steps towards solving the lack-of-wedding-rings problem. Are they really wedding rings if you exchange them after your wedding? I've decided that it doesn't matter as long as Kelly no longer has students telling her that if she's married she should make her "husband" give her a ring. The current plan is to exchange them at our reception in September, which I am apparently no longer allowed to call "the thing."
I've got a bunch of work to do this weekend, but we have friends coming for dinner this evening and we're hoping to go kayaking on the Charles tomorrow so I feel pretty relaxed anyway.
