Local friends know that as an expatriate New Yorker I have a seemingly endless list of things that New York does better. However, there is one area where even I must admit that Massachusetts has been outdoing New York for years (and no, it's not baseball). The Massachusetts DRMV is so mind-bogglingly efficient that it's hard to believe it's run by any government, much less the government of Massachusetts. I just renewed Car's registration from my laptop in under 60 seconds. It was super-easy. This is the first time I've used their online service because visits to the RMV office downtown take less than 10 minutes. Now, to be fair, I have not gone to the DMV in New York since I passed my road test, but back then the one in Westchester was the kind of place where you didn't just bring a book to read in line, you brought a trilogy.
Now if only Massachusetts could take whoever's responsible for the RMV and beg them to run the T for a few years.
