It was nice to have a long weekend, despite not getting very much done around the house.

Saturday night, Kelly and I did our traditional Valentine's Day dinner. I managed to avoid setting off the smoke detector. I made a lamb curry dish that was a little too spicy (I may need to halve the amount of peppers next time) and green beans with shallots. Kelly made a chocolate and peanut butter pie that set a new record for cute desserts around here:

Since we tend not to eat a lot of dessert, we only ate the part with the heart on it that night. So the next evening, we took leftover cake that said "I YOU" on it down to E+B's, and Kelly had to explain the cryptic frosting to the other guests, who were much amused.

We finally got to see an episode of "The L Word", which was not quite so hot as we'd been led to expect. We also got to see the next-to-last episode of Sex and the City, which is not as good as it used to be, plus the first half-hour of an HBO movie about suffragettes, which was a disappointing treatment of a fascinating topic. Between the sound and the set, even without any glaring anachronisms, it seemed very implausible that the movie was set when it was supposed to be set.

The other highlight of Sunday was that we took a trip to Home Depot to investigate a couple of things we're planning to do at our new condo. We managed to find sample chips of the laminate that's on our kitchen counters, which Kelly absolutely hates, but I don't think it's really all that bad. It's just a hard-to-match shade of blue. Holding the samples up to the paint swatches we'd been considering quickly dashed my plans for painting the kitchen yellow. We can definitely find a blue that's nicer than what's currently on the walls, so we'll probably do that. It also appears that I may get my purple room, but nothing's final yet.
