My week of suburban exile is almost over. I've actually learned a bunch of good stuff at my training course, but I've also had a lot of thumb-twiddling time because I seem to be able to do the lab sections of the course much faster than anyone else. I've been using some of that spare time to read up on things like JMX that I'm interested in for work, and some of it to catch up on Livejournal. Unfortunately, I've been working on a computer that has only Netscape 4.78 available for web browsing. It's sort of surprising to see what works and what doesn't. I tried to install Mozilla, but ran into trouble and decided it wasn't worth it.

But I do hate driving, especially in rush-hour traffic. I also hate not having access to a fridge for homemade lunches. I have been to the Burlington Mall food court twice in the past few days. On the eat-anything-you-want-and-still-go-down-a-pants-size diet, that's so not recommended.

I've been going to lunch with the other woman in the class for the past few days. She's nice, but I had an I'm-from-Mars moment when she was talking about how a friend of hers came up the previous evening and they went out to dinner and talked trash about their husbands, and how sometimes you just need to get together with the girls and complain about men. I think it's different for lesbians, because we can't exactly blame our relationship problems on women as a whole gender, and if I do need to complain about my girlfriend in particular then I'm just as likely to talk to a guy about it. But that all seemed like a lot to explain, so I just smiled and nodded and asked where they'd gone to dinner.
