Weekend update, less bored now
Sep. 1st, 2003 08:34 pmSo the weekend actually turned out better than I thought it would on Saturday. We spent Sunday up in New Hampshire hanging out with Kelly's family. We took a cute little boat trip from Portsmouth out to the Isle of Shoals. Kelly and I walked all the way around the island, which is not very big, and I snapped lots of photos with my digital camera. One or two pictures actually came out decently. Kelly said we should print out some of my pictures and put them up. I said we could do a photo collage of the Atlantic ocean hitting the rocks all over the east coast.
Midway through our walk, Kelly stopped and said "I think there's something in my shoe." Something turned out to be an inch-long nail that had somehow gotten embedded in the sole of her shoe. Fortunately, it hadn't actually touched her foot (it would suck if we both had to get tetanus shots in the same weekend). I told her to sit down, took the unusable sneaker and went off to find a rock we could use to knock the nail out of there. Unfortunately, the part of the island we were on was made up entirely of big rocks but all the little rocks get washed or blown away and I couldn't find one. Meanwhile, everyone I passed wanted to know why I was carrying a shoe. Finally, I found a rock that looked like it might work. Then I realized that I'd wandered so far I couldn't see Kelly anymore and wound up taking the scenic route back to where she was sitting. The rock turned out to be ineffective. I took her shoe again and ran off to find someone with a knife or a pair of pliers. Fortunately, there were three people standing at the top of the hill right above us and one of them had a knife. He got the nail out of her shoe in about 30 seconds. Since we had our third anniversary coming up the next day (today) and hadn't really made any plans to celebrate it, I told Kelly that we should get each other Swiss army knives.
Sunday started off with yet another unsuccessful trip to the grocery store. I was all set to make soup for lunch, but did Wild Oats have escarole? Of course not. (I did later find some at Shaws, but they had no parsley. I can't win.) Afterwards, Alek came by and we had a shopping expedition to Bed Bath & Beyond (for some bath and a lot of beyond) and Target (where Kelly and I did get our Swiss army knives). Helping other people outfit their new apartments is always fun.
