It's another exciting long weekend at the Slinkerton household. For some reason, I don't seem to do well with holiday weekends. They sort of sneak up on me and I don't make good plans and then I just crash because I'm worn out. Someday when I have more disposable income, Kelly and I will actually manage to leave town for a long weekend.

This one looks to be slightly more interesting than my 4-day Memorial Day weekend (where it rained the whole time) because we're going on a little trip to the Isles of Shoals with Kelly's family tomorrow so I will at least get out of the house a bit. Kelly's mom has been trying to arrange this outing for a while, so I'm getting up way too early in the morning in the interests of family harmony. Fortunately, Kelly agreed with me that family harmony does not require us to go to the Olive Garden in Portsmouth for dinner with them afterwards.

I got out of the house today too, but it was no fun. I had to go to the doctor to get her to sign off on my immunizations for my upcoming first semester of grad school. Unfortunately, I needed a TD booster and a hepatitis shot, neither of which could be done there on account of it being the weekend. So she wrote me a prescription and sent me off to Mt. Auburn Hospital's walk-in clinic, which was at least pretty fast. The shots themselves didn't hurt, but now I have that dull just-got-a-shot muscle pain in both arms. Then I came back and got my last bit of registration-related paperwork done so I'm theoretically all set to start classes on Tuesday.*

I got out of work early yesterday and after an abortive trip to the grocery store where I couldn't find the stuff I wanted to cook for dinner, we wound up going to the pub right next to the Tibetan restaurant in Teele Square. They make a pretty good burger and the beer list is good, but the cigarette smoke drifting over from nearby tables was unpleasant. I crashed really early because my sleep schedule is all messed up on account of Kelly having started school on Monday.

Not much else is going on here. Call or e-mail if you'd like to hang out on Monday, because I could use some entertainment.

* After many run-arounds, I did finally manage to get myself registered for a class. I'm taking a course on networks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. I'm going to have to remember how to program in C again. I haven't explicitly allocated memory since the late '90s, but I still have a copy of the K&R book so it should be good.
