Talking to Dean and FJ tonight made me realize just how little LiveJournal I'm reading lately. This is due to a combination of trying to get 8 hours of sleep every night and not having the opportunity to read LJ during the work day. I'm not really keeping up with anyone's journal and when I do have time to skim stuff I don't always have time to comment. If you talk to me and mention things as though you think I read them and I stare at you blankly, that's why.

Whether or not there's much going on in my life is debatable. It was good to get back to work this week after being on vacation. I got hit with a daunting pile of stuff to do and managed to come up with some neat ways of making it work. Over the past year or so, it's gotten much easier for me to sketch out object models and then sit down and really build something that looks like the model. It used to be that I'd draw up an object model, then sit down to code and find fifty other things I hadn't considered that made the final implementation look not so much like the model. But I can see myself becoming a much better designer and it's neat.

While I was on vacation, I somewhat randomly decided to quit drinking coffee regularly. This past week is probably the first time I've managed a whole work week without coffee since I started college. I've been drinking chai tea all day today to compensate, but that's okay. If I manage to give up drinking coffee at the office, I'll be pretty happy.

Softball season is winding down, although later than usual because we need to make up a million games that got rained out earlier in the season. It's been sort of a so-so season, with not very many organized practices and consequently not much improvement in my skills. We also had a lot of turnover this year and I felt a bit out of place with the new people. But overall it was good.

My home life is so boringstable that I mostly don't bother writing about it. Kelly is pretty much the best girlfriend I could ever have hoped for. I do feel like we've fallen into the lesbian relationship vortex (where you move in together and then nobody sees either of you for a few years) despite our best efforts not to do so. And I feel like we're only hanging out with other couples lately, which is another one of those things I used to swear I'd never do when I moved in with someone.

My big projects for next week are to figure out what I have to do to register for my first semester of grad school (eep!) and to get to the gym a few times to get in shape for the 5K that I'm running with my co-workers at the beginning of September. I'm a terrible runner, so this should be a big disaster. Fortunately, I haven't made any bets that I'm going to beat anyone, so it'll be okay if I come in last.
