Why I hate e-commerce

Trying to order some vacation reading[1] from Amazon.com. Before I order a book, they claim it ships in 4-8 days. After I submit the order, they tell me the book will ship sometime between January 15 and February 5.

I suppose they didn't specify 4-8 days on what planet, but still that sort of defeats the point. I've cancelled the order in favor of a late-afternoon walk over to some local megabookstores.

[1] The planned vacation reading is the sort of thing that Kelly says defeats the point of vacation. Anyone read any good mystery novels lately?
