drained

Exhaustion crept up on me sometime yesterday, in between grocery shopping and arriving at my office (where I tried to write some code, and had delightful IRC chatter with [livejournal.com profile] wandra and [livejournal.com profile] malte, but was ultimately unable to get much done because I couldn't think straight).

Alek came over for dinner last night. I made turkey chili (the first recipe I've used from Bon Appetit since we got a subscription this summer) and Kelly baked a really good lemon meringue pie. Very successful, except that slicing habanero peppers made my fingers burn and lotion didn't seem to help. No idea what's up with that. I fell asleep during the movie we watched afterwards, which was okay because I'd seen it before.

This morning, I just sort of woke up tired. We went out for breakfast, which was good except that I was sort of too tired to eat. Coffee didn't really help either. Then I curled up on the couch reading one of the books I got at the BPL yesterday: The Company of Strangers by Robert Wilson. It's a WWII spy novel, so far pretty good but not as good as A Small Death in Lisbon. I also finally got around to unpacking the box of dishes that a friend gave us last month, so I did some minor kitchen rearrangement too. Now I'm ready for a nap again.

I'm not sure what I'm doing this evening. Kelly's invited friends over for dinner, so I may stick around for that or I may try to go to a party. But I'm not sure I trust myself to stay awake for the 15-minute drive at this point.
