Sep. 27th, 2002 11:24 pmHaving sent Kelly off to Virginia for the weekend (I have the apartment to myself! Woo-hoo!), I headed down to Diesel for a quite coffee with Alek that turned into a more social sort of evening. In addition to having a really good time hanging out with Alek, I ran into two long-ago co-workers from Sapient. And the polyamorists were having their monthly get-together at the back of the cafe so I stopped back to say hi to
cthulhia,
treacle_well and
sekjaya briefly after Alek left. Socializing is good. I've been more of a hermit than usual lately for stress-related reasons, and I definitely need to start getting out more (before work next takes over my life completely, which it'll do soon).
Work's going okay. I'm doing a lot of little different things lately. I wrote a little bit of Perl, for the first time in about 6 months, to process HTTP access logs. I got the script working on a Win2K server and then was given a new server on which to install Linux, so I got to reassemble the whole thing. But one of my co-workers helped me out and I like messing around with Linux even though my Unix skills are pretty rusty these days. I also get to mess around with Apache a bit, which is new to me.
The other highlight of this week was that I took the GRE, which is a giant weight off my shoulders. Soon I'll need to deal with applications and stuff. But first, lots and lots of guilt-free novel reading. I have a long-overdue trip to the BPL (to return some long-overdue books) planned for tomorrow.
