All that glitters is so not Oscar material...

I spent the afternoon watching Mariah Carey in her first and last leading role, in Glitter. I have only myself to blame, really. We were over at bitty and bubblebabble's apartment for brunch, and I turned to fj and said "so when are we going to watch Glitter?"

I did it just to see the expression on Kelly's face, which was totally worth it. Unfortunately, there was then no way to get out of actually watching the movie. If you're going to watch a movie that bad, definitely do it with fj and pinkfish. We had fun. The movie was pretty awful. I thought they'd give her a speaking part, but Mariah just sort of poses her way through it and doesn't do much by way of dialogue.

But brunch was good. "Get bitty to make cinnamon bread for you" is now at the top of my list of suggestions for what to do in Boston. And bubblebabble made good omelettes, and I brought some of the orange-ginger cookies I made yesterday. I'm still a bit amazed that I can bake with some small amount of success, because it's a rather recent thing, but apparently I'm learning. Next weekend I'm going to try making challah, for Rosh Hashanah.

This weekend's other big cinematic event was a trip to see Blue Crush at the cinema downtown with faithful reader Alek and some other local friends. If you're into surfing movies and/or girls in bathing suits, it's a good one. Michelle Rodriguez was especially good as the tough-girl sidekick. And the cliched love story subplot wasn't half bad as those things go.

It's been a relaxing but uneventful 3-day weekend. Lots of good hanging out with friends time. I feel like I'm about to become really, really busy but we'll see how it goes.
