Disempowerment
Jul. 10th, 2002 12:07 pmI'm not normally one to whine, but the power at my apartment has gone out at least once a day since Friday.
During the heat wave, I pretty much expected it, but Mass Electric's daily load capacity estimates have been fine. There's just something screwy going on between Medford Square and Powderhouse Square.
The really frustrating thing is that I scrambled to leave work by 7pm on Monday so I could go home and write (long-delayed article is almost done). The power went out minutes after I sat down on the couch with my laptop. On Tuesday, the power was out by the time Kelly got home. I left work at 8:30pm to meet her at CVS and buy flashlights. Around 9:30pm, a police car began driving around our very dark neighborhood with an officer announcing that power wouldn't be back on until 3pm today. We did have a romantic game of cards by candlelight though.
So I've had pretty much no chance to get anything done at home this week because it's been rather dark. If work weren't such a madhouse right now, I'd try and take a morning off and catch up, but I'm feeling too rushed as it is and I'm likely to be working on the weekend already.
