Soooooop and not enough studying
Mar. 17th, 2002 01:24 pmWe had a good time at the World's Most Agonized-Over Potluck (Hi,
bitty!). Saw some people we hadn't seen in a while and I got some advice about kayaking lessons from the guest of honor's mother. The sweet potato soup that I had feared was too peppery was met with approval, and
treacle_well explained some good reasons for that pointing out all the weaknesses of the food before you serve it thing that I'm always trying to get Kelly to stop doing.
Woke up early this morning, got some studying done and then headed out for brunch with Kelly's family at Cambridge Common. We passed a road race in Davis Square, which reminded me that one of my goals for this year is to get into shape to run a 5-mile race (probably the Frontrunners' Yuletide Stride in December). When we got home, I chopped up some vegetables and I've now got basic vegetable stock from the Soup Nazi cookbook* simmering on the stove. It smells good. I'm not yet sure what we'll use it for, but there are a bunch of good recipes in the book that use half a batch of it. And it was ridiculously easy to make. Now I just need to find a use for the leftover leeks. But not tonight, because we're going out to dinner with friends. We're taking a very picky eater to Pho Pasteur, which should be fun (he says he'll be openminded). But first I need to slog through a few more chapters of my Java book (which is starting to get on my nerves because the quizzes at the end of each chapter have an unfortunate tendency to have misnumbered answers).
*Actually called the Daily Soup cookbook. The restaurant from which it originates was the basis for the "Soup Nazi" episode of Seinfeld.
