my fave was this one we'd always pull on the newbies during software tools training...
nearly every power strip sape bought had a little raised test button. when pressed, the strip would make a loud, piercing beeeeep, like an alarm going off. subtly stepping on the button while a newbie was working would always elicit panic. ah, those were the days!
of course, you could also wave them around people, pretending it was one of those hand scanners they use at airports. again, the alarm feature lent a wonderful air of credibility to the game.
I probably shouldn't have, but I couldn't help it. I was laughing out loud for several moments. I've stopped now (and am thankful that my power strip is in the tangled mess way over there.
I used to work with a woman who had a tendency to kick the power strip button off every time she was stressed. Then I would have to come into her office and try to recover her lost work.
My building got hit by lightening last summer and the power went out immediately. I was right in the middle of doing something complicated and didn't remember when the last time I saved was. After running around for a moment, I remembered that the power failure was only affecting my external monitor and not my laptop.
