So in April, I observed that our local ice cream stand was out of business. It stayed closed all summer, but we were driving by last week and the lights were on. This evening, even though it was wicked cold out, I walked over to investigate. Louie's has been re-opened, apparently under new ownership. The new Louie is an elderly gentleman with an accent I couldn't place. He needs to get some help behind the counter because he was having a lot of trouble comprehending basic ice cream orders (the woman ahead of me tipped me off after some confusion over chocolate chip vs. orange pineapple). I was unable to communicate that I wanted hot fudge, but I did get a cup of Oreo cookie ice cream and it's pretty good. Having an ice cream stand around the corner is not all that useful in the middle of October when you mostly kicked your ice cream habit over the summer because your wife was dieting, but maybe he'll have the hang of it by next summer.
