One of my college classmates, Erik, is in medical school at Tufts. He's the volunteer coordinator for Shape Up Somerville Family Fun and Fitness Day on Sunday, Sept. 25. It's a great event and he really needs some volunteers. Kelly and I are going to volunteer and it would be great if you wanted to volunteer with us. Here's Erik's pitch, e-mail him at erik.geissal@tufts.edu if you're interested in helping out:

On Sunday, Sep 25, the Shape Up Somerville Family Fun and Fitness Day
will take place. It is an all-day extravaganza of sights and sounds
meant to educate Somerville children and families about health and
fitness.
The prevalence of childhood obesity in Somerville is higher than the
national average. The Family Fun and Fitness Day is one part of a
CDC-funded research project meant to study and improve health and
fitness among Somerville children.
On this special day there will be amusement thrills (moon bounce,
obstacle course, etc.), races (a 5K and 1.5 mile run), performances
(dance, gymnastics, martial arts), massage tables, food, face
painting...you name it. Last year, the Family Fun and Fitness Day
brought almost twice as many children as was expected, leading to
logistical problems (albeit welcome) of understaffing and slowed
registration.
We don't want to run into that problem again. I have been given the
task of recruiting 60+ volunteers, and I need your help and your time.
Please, PLEASE come join us on this wonderful day! Every volunteer
gets a free T-shirt, food, and enough fun to last a lifetime. :)
