For the moment, at least, I seem to have triumphed over the forces of chaos. Most of last week's chaos was work-related. It turns out that my title, employment status and manager are all changing but I am going to be sitting at the same desk doing the same work as before. That all adds up to be good, but there's still a lot of chaotic stuff going on in my general vicinity and it's going to be interesting to see how it all works out.
Kelly and I went out to dinner last night. We wanted to go to Helmand, but hadn't made a reservation. I remembered that Derek had mentioned Ajanta going out of business a few months before, so we walked a few doors down to see what was there. I looked at the menu of the Thai restaurant that had opened there and had a sense of deja vu. It was the menu from Brown Sugar, one of our favorite Thai places in Boston. They now have a place on our side of the river. If I still worked in Kendall Square, I would be over there for lunch at least once a week, but I don't. It's a nice restaurant. The food is as good as one would expect. The decor is interesting, although I'm not too sure about the bright blue walls. They went with an aquatic kind of theme to go with the walls. There's a small pond with fish and a fountain and colored lights in the middle of the restaurant, as well as a nifty pair of fishtanks and some fish-shaped lamps and seashells on the wall. Anyway, it's probably the best Thai restaurant in Cambridge now, because there aren't any others that are particularly good. We need to go to Helmand another time (after making reservations), because the whole restaurant smelled great.
After dinner, we went to the mall. Kelly thought she wanted a portable CD player for the gym, but wound up with an iPod Shuffle. I didn't even try to talk her into it, I was chatting with a salesperson about XM radio when she came over and said none of the CD players seemed worth it and maybe she should just get an iPod. Now, I just need to figure out if there's a way we can share an iTunes music library on my Powerbook instead of re-ripping all of our CDs. I have a lot of her CDs in iTunes already and it seems like it should be do-able, but I get the impression that it's easier to share music over a network than to share music with other users on the same machine.
This is going to be a very mellow weekend. Basketball season is over, after a very close loss in the finals last weekend. My softball team is getting organized for the summer. We need players, if any of my local readers know anyone who wants to play some softball. Dyke drama has caused some roster shakeups, but the team is relatively stable and we have a good time. I need to pop over to the local batting cages and get some practice before we start playing.
The next month or so will be busy, but I think it's generally going to be pretty good. I always get a massive energy boost at the beginning of spring. It should die out as soon as we have a solid week of rain and clouds.
