This is one of my favorite times of year. I've got a lot going on, but I'm actually pretty relaxed. Having Columbus Day weekend off for the first time in a few years probably helps. We just got back from breakfast with one of Kelly's friends at a local restaurant I hadn't been to in years because there's always a line halfway around the block on Sunday mornings and we're not so into going out for breakfast anymore.

On Saturday, Kelly and I went up to Amesbury to get haircuts and to stop at the local apple orchard. We didn't really pick apples, but we did take a little walk around the orchard before picking up apples and cider (and cider donuts). We pretty much blew the whole afternoon and early evening once I turned on the Yankees game. ESPN does a much better job with the game coverage than Fox Sports does. The next week or so of Sox/Yankees showdown ought to be exciting. I really think it could go either way.

On Sunday, I managed a trip to the gym for the first time in about six weeks. That was really good. My new plan is to try going on Tuesday mornings, but we'll see if that works any better than all the previous unsuccessful gym-going plans. After going to the gym, I went to check out the new bookstore in Porter Square. They don't have all their inventory set up yet, but it's going to be a really nice store. I ordered a book that I'd promised myself I could read after my consulting project wrapped up (it's dangerous to have long novels sitting around when you're on a tight schedule). Kelly and I were talking about the importance of supporting local bookstores vs. the importance of not owning more books than one's bookshelves can hold. We need to get my technical library out of the living room, but I don't have a real office at work and I've been doing most of my work on the coffee table at home, so it's going to take a little while.

In other news, Kelly and I have been working on plans for our [better late than never] wedding celebration. Oy vey. I had been thinking we'd have a party for 40-50 people, but our very preliminary list had twice that many on it. Presumably we won't get them all to show up, but it's still daunting. At this point, we're looking to do a Sunday brunch kind of thing next June. I think it's going to be fun, but I'm feeling pretty clueless about how to go about planning. We'll start hunting for an appropriate venue sometime soon. Once we've got that, I think the rest will be relatively straightforward. We've also started working on some ideas for a summer vacation. We're thinking about going somewhere on the west coast, but we don't know where yet.
