Weekend update
Jun. 29th, 2004 07:46 amOnce again, I want to thank everyone for all the kind things they've said in response to my last post. Kelly was away for the weekend, so I haven't gotten around to showing her my LJ yet but I've passed on congratulations from all of you.
I had a pretty good weekend despite being home alone.
danger_chick and I went out on Friday night and I think I accidentally had caffeinated coffee at 10pm because I really didn't sleep. I did make use of the time between midnight and 5am to finish reading Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, which I recommend highly if you're into fiction. It's got great historical detail and an interestingly gendered protagonist.
I was pretty useless on Saturday, but managed to rally in the evening for a very long walk around Somerville followed by tea with
fj. My apartment is definitely within walking distance of Union Square, but I have yet to find a great direct route because there are too many highway-related obstacles between here and there. I did find a new indirect route, but one that's best used in daylight because parts of it were a little creepy at dusk.
Kelly came back from Virginia on Sunday, so I picked her up at the airport and managed not to get horribly lost driving around between the terminals. Later in the day, I had an awesome game of softball. It's unfortunate that the field in Roslindale where we play is oriented so that the sun sets directly behind the backstop. On one play, I saw the ball go up but couldn't find it on the way down and was praying that it wouldn't land on top of my head when it hit the dirt near second base. We were missing a bunch of players and trailed for the entire game until we got a 2-run lead in the last inning and managed to hang onto it for a win. My hitting has improved since the game two weeks ago where I struck out four times (I suppose it had nowhere to go but up).
Last night, we went to see Sting and Annie Lennox at the unfortunately-named Tweeter Center (it's not just me, Sting got on stage and wanted to know what the hell a Tweeter Center was). This was the largest concert I'd been to in years and we had seats way the hell in the back, but it was excellent. Both performers put on great shows and it was a very pleasant evening for sitting outside and listening to music for a few hours. Sting had two drummers onstage with him (one with a standard drum kit and one with a more varied percussion setup) and his band sounded really good.
That's about all for now because I need to take off for my second day of part-time employment.
