Watching history
May. 17th, 2004 12:33 pmI wasn't feeling well last night, so Kelly and I didn't make it down to Cambridge City Hall to hang out with our friends E+B while they waited for their marriage license. They did call us at home just in time for me to tell them that they were on the front page of Boston.com.
Today, I dropped by Boston's City Hall before running an errand right near City Hall in Cambridge. In both places, there were still a ton of news vans but things were pretty mellow. There were maybe a dozen protesters in Boston, mostly of the religious variety, but 2 or 3 people stood under a "Remove the SJC" banner. Last week, the paper had mentioned that there might be protests happening near Faneuil Hall, but nothing was going on there. Every time a couple emerged from City Hall, the rest of the crowd broke into applause. In Cambridge, there were no protesters and not much of a crowd outside except for a few people talking to the news crews. Down the street, the 1369 coffee shop had a big sign that said "Congratulations!" on its front awning.
