I'm once again back from New York. Passover was good despite not bringing Kelly along. My little brother came home from college and it was really nice to spend time with him. The seder was nice, if slightly smaller and less enthusiastic about the religious bits than it's been in past years. Pre-seder prep was a lot less work than usual because my mother had gotten much of it out of the way beforehand.

Because everyone was being lazy on Friday, I got to spend some time reading. I finished The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood [warning: the comments on this post contain spoilers] (good, but I wasn't entirely satisfied with where it wound up) and started Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver (excellent so far, but I've only read about 100 pages). In between books, my brother and youngest sister were kind enough to catch me up on their latest Playstation 2 games (Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 and SSX Tricky, both of which I lost at big-time).

Not much planned for the rest of the weekend. A little bit of quasi-kosher-for-passover cooking in my unkosher kitchen, a visit to the office tomorrow that I'm slightly bitter about (major deadline on Monday, I'm not sure whose bright idea it was to make the deadline immediately after Passover and Easter) but I'll at least get a nice bike ride out of it if the weather cooperates.

Speaking of cooking, I stopped by Penzey's in Norwalk on my way home to feed Kelly's double-strength vanilla addiction (it's like crack, only better in brownies). It's a dangerous place to go shopping alone, but I exercised restraint and still managed to pick up some interesting stuff (galangal, dried jalapenos, cardamom pods, and some peppery stuff that will supposedly turn into salad dressing if we mix it with mayo and sour cream). Unfortunately, the car did not smell like vanilla for the rest of the drive home the way it did last time. But there was no traffic and I got to listen to all sorts of music that Kelly can't stand, so it was still a pretty good drive.
