Things I do when I'm not watching TV
Mar. 12th, 2003 08:26 amI haven't written about basketball in a while. The season's almost over. We've got a semi-final game tonight, which we just barely made it into by squeaking out a victory over a team that had only 4 players*. I was still sick and it was not my best game. Hopefully tonight will be better.
I've got a great idea for how Governor Mitt Romney can cut costs in the state university system. They could try not sending me any "we haven't received your application" letters until after they've processed their incoming mail. I almost flipped out last night because I got a letter dated March 5 saying that they hadn't received the packet I sent during the last week of February (in time for the March 1 deadline). When I called today, I was told that it was taking them 3-4 weeks to process incoming mail, so I should keep checking back regularly. It's a good thing I called before I sent them another copy of anything, or they'd have had even more mail.
I've spent most of the past week trying to figure out Apache Axis. All sorts of technical publications are full of how web services is going to be the next big thing and everyone should go learn about them to stay marketable. I'm hoping that the next next big thing will involve fewer four-letter acronyms and less unreadable XML because this stuff is totally not my idea of a good time. But I suppose it'll be cool once I get it working.
* For those of you who don't follow these things, basketball is conventionally played with 5 people on the court for each team.
