Time off is good
Apr. 25th, 2002 10:12 amTaking a week off between jobs was a good idea. I'm being a bit of a slacker, but in between sleeping a lot I've managed to do a little volunteer work at GLAD, pick up some books at the library[0], do a little bit of cooking, play some pool and Boggle at Diesel, introduce a friend to Fluxx, and catch up on some paperwork.
The one thing I really haven't been doing is thinking about work. No tech books, no online tech articles except the occasional glance at Slashdot, not even much work on my own programming projects. And I resisted the temptation to ask the new employers what they thought I'd be working on first so that I could read up on it. There'll be plenty of time for that next week. This is really not like me at all, but I suspect that it's probably good for my head.
The other thing I haven't been doing much of is getting outside. Between the dismal forecast and colder temperatures and a few days of not feeling 100%, I haven't exercised much beyond my usual don't-feel-like-driving-there long walks. But in a few hours I'm off to Dorchester to pick up Bitty for some hiking in the Blue Hills.
[0] From this week's library haul, I've read Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential and a cheesy mystery novel. I've just started James Bamford's Body of Secrets, a history of the NSA that may take awhile and I've got another Wodehouse book for next week's subway reading.
