Wow

For a moment there, the Mets were only half a strike away from winning Game 6.

Did you know...

The last time there was a Game 6 at Shea was the 1986 World Series.

I did. And to that I say "Bill Buckner"

Aw, the game was already tied by then, so it's not as though a clean out would have ended it. Also, there was still a seventh game.

I can't believe I am discussing this. :)

No. All that is true. But even a little leaguer knows to keep his legs together when he fields a grounder like that. I would be shaking my head about it even if it hadn't been an error by a member of the Red Sox. It's just that much sweeter because it was the Red Sox.

[livejournal.com profile] jwg suggested that it would be appropriate for a crucial play in this game to involve a grounder hit by Preston Wilson (Mookie's stepson, for those of you who haven't been following).

I'll note that our household is rooting for the Cardinals over the Mets, but we don't feel strongly about it. Whoever wins this series is due to lose to the Tigers anyway.

*nodnod* They've sometimes shown him in the stands during the NLCS.

And of course, Mookie was one fast runner -- even if the ball had been fielded, he *might* have beat it to the bag. But anyway.

New facts have emerged about that play and that day! See here (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lukas/061018&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos1) for details.

Ah, well, that explains everything.
